The town of Wellborn is located just south of Interstate 10, just west of the I-75 interchange. Probably named after Louis Wellborn DuBois in 1860, the history of Wellborn has been traced back to before 750 AD, perhaps even to 150 AD, when Indians lived here. The 1830 census has no settlers in this area, although the 1840 census shows 16 residents in 'Little River', which would become Wellborn in 1860 and recognized as a town in 1903. Wellborn's 'Boom Town' period was from 1890-1920. Wellborn's sons & daughters have fought in every war since the Civil War. Wellborn has sent at least two men to serve as State Representative: Dwight Stansel, the current State Rep, and Albert W. McLeran, Sr., who was also elected State Senator. Wellborn today is a quiet town, interrupted only by the train, which still moves past Railroad Street, right through town. Wellborn boasts a Volunteer Fire Department, Neighborhood Watch Program and a fine Community Association which has the daunting task of organizing the Annual Blueberry Festival each June. -Some information gleaned from 'The Wellborn Book'

Wellborn enjoys mild winters with no snowfall and rare freezes. Summers can get hot, but not nearly as brutal as Central or South Florida. Indigenous flora includes Pine, Cypress, Pecan, Walnut, Tupelo, Grapes, Huckleberry, Blackberry and Blueberry. Farm-raised blueberries especially thrive here, making Wellborn the 'Blueberry Capital of the World' and the site of the Annual Wellborn Blueberry Festival each June. Wellborn and the surrounding communities offer lots to see and do! There are dozens of springs within a short drive, with great hunting and fishing nearby.
